Dog lovers + homeowners = private dog parks
Homeowners are renting out their backyards as a new side hustle
Being a homeowner is not for the faint of heart. There is no landlord to call when repairs are needed. Even a condominium owners association (COA) board will say you’re on your own when a repair is behind your four walls. But around tax time, that mortgage deduction is an option. Meanwhile, paying rent does not help credit scores or help with tax write-offs.
Still, between the loan principal, loan interest, taxes and insurance, the expenses can be a lot. New homeowners seeing successful examples, such as their own parents who were homeowners, prove it does work. (Knowing the home-buying process may also help new homeowners not become victims from the trend of thieves trying to get mortgage loans in their names.) But even after the closing paperwork is signed, the alerts are set to keep track of hackers and the tax write-off is sent to the IRS, there’s still the matter of maintaining steady income to afford the house.
And some dog-loving homeowners with backyards are getting creative. Instead of pet owners paying for dog walkers, dog boarders and doggie day cares to take care of their pets throughout the day, interest has grown in plain old grass and a fence. And new (or current) homeowners may already have this amenity.
