For DIYers, the Home Depot Seeds Program is equal to a kid in a candy store
The best perk of being a do-it-yourself homeowner is freebies that make you want to do more projects
Update on April 27, 2024: I love the idea of this program, and I write reviews for free anyway (on Yelp and Amazon). The Home Depot Seeds program was even more exciting to shop from than Amazon Vine. I didn’t think Customer Service could get any worse than Allivet or PetCo, and yet, this program has done so. After almost two months of Customer Service ignoring at least five emails from me inquiring about why I hadn’t received more monthly newsletters, changing my email address made things even more complicated. Better Business Bureau had to get involved.
In addition to the shipping problem (mentioned below), the Home Depot Seeds Customer Service team is also so poorly organized that they will tell you that your own email and phone number aren’t on file and you’re not in the program — until you take screenshots of items you clearly reviewed and photos of products received. I logged into the account (that they claim I don’t have) and removed myself from the program. After multiple warnings telling me that if I left the Home Depot Seeds program then I couldn’t rejoin, I doubled down and bailed. Until the team runs smoother, thanks, but no thanks. At least I got 10 freebies I already needed out of it!

I had absolutely no idea the Home Depot Seeds Program existed. But after waking up and deciding I needed to randomly fix everything from a light switch, a non-electric and electric bidet, and ordering custom blinds, I guess it was a given that I’d eventually receive an invitation to the program. I am no stranger to Patch & Prime Spackling and still grin like a Cheshire cat at my decorated fuse box.

But the Home Depot Seeds Program isn’t just a way to instigate trying out new do-it-yourself (DIY) projects. I was also able to replace and fix some old items that had been on my get-rid-of-this list for a while, but I had higher priorities. So far, I’ve received the following items in the program:
Vigoro 12 in. Tropical Foliage Swiss Cheese Monstera Adansonii Plant in Hanging Basket
Hampton Bay 65 in. Black Tree Triple Floor Lamp with White Plastic Shades
And I will dance in shower circles when my new shower head finally arrives. So are there any down sides to getting freebies in exchange for DIY home projects inside (or outside) of your home?
