All peel-and-stick wallpaper is not created equal. I learned that the hard way after running out of one brand’s design and buying another. With the first wallpaper choice, every single houseguest has paused in the hallway by my bathroom door and said, “You did this? I love it.” (I heard the compliment as recently as this past Sunday. And the only reason I have this accidental accent wall in my hallway is because I had extra wallpaper and didn’t know what else to do it with it.)
If I knew then what I know now, I would’ve bought that first brand and design in bulk. But who would’ve guessed I’d have a house fire from an electric baseboard heater a year later?

After that fire scare, I hired two electricians to remove both electric baseboard heaters completely from my bedroom and living room walls, and disconnect the wiring in one hidden outlet. I stared at the area where the heaters used to be and wondered how I was going to temporarily cover this up before hiring a professional painter.
My answer: New wallpaper! (After all, my first set has securely stuck to my fuse box, ceiling, hallway and medicine cabinet without any problems — for three years.) The problem? I bought the second set on clearance, and if not for my couch, a dog crate and a dresser, the wallpaper in both rooms falls to the laminate floors and rolls up like a burrito.
I knew I had to do something after taping and re-taping the latter wallpaper for almost a year and a half, but in my short tasks of house repairs, hiring a painter just wasn’t on my priority list. To my delight, I accidentally ran across a do-it-yourself video on self-adhesive drywall patches (Wellco specifically) and spackling. Pink wall and all, here’s the result of my DIY wall repair.
