Do bulk Internet and cable packages save condo associations money?
The condo board fight to cancel Xfinity's bulk package
“If he’s dead, put him on the phone to prove it,” the Xfinity customer service rep said to me.
I’ll never forget that comment. This happened about a week after my grandfather passed away. I was the last person to see him alive, and I’d been much calmer and logical than I expected to be. The entire experience made me respect caregivers so much more, and it reminded me that we all should write a will long before we “need” to write a will. I was even calm, cool and collected when I ran into one of those “smile more often” men . But the Xfinity rep caught me on a day when all couth went out of the door.
Not only had the Xfinity rep demanded that I put a deceased family member on the phone, but he refused to cancel the cable service and denied that I had the correct Social Security number for my grandfather. I responded. I will not type what I said. From that day forward, Xfinity 100% lit a match and burned down the possibility that I would ever be a customer of theirs again — and would go out of my way to introduce competitors to everybody I knew.
Exactly one year and one week later, I closed the deal on a condo purchase and moved in. I also found out that our condo assessments included a bulk cable package for none other than Xfinity. I didn’t care. I called every single cable company within the area to get a cable and internet package. Even with the service already included, that bridge was burned and staying at the bottom of the ocean.

As an Amazon affiliate, I earn a percentage from purchases with my referral links. I know some consumers are choosing to boycott Amazon for its DEI removal. However, after thinking about this thoroughly, I want to continue promoting cool products from small businesses, women-owned businesses and (specifically) Black-owned businesses who still feature their items on Amazon. As of the first date of Black History Month 2025, each new post will ALWAYS include a MINIMUM of one product sold by a Black-owned business. (I have visited the seller’s official site to verify that Amazon Black-owned logo.) I am (slowly) doing this with older, popular posts too. If you still choose to boycott, I 100% respect that decision.
Two years later, and after enjoying the perks of streaming via ROKU and Philo, I was nominated as the condo board president. One of the first few changes our new board made was to permanently cancel our Xfinity bulk deal. Although the cable cancellation would significantly save us thousands of dollars, our property manager at the time warned us that the process would be tedious.
My response: “I’ll gladly take over the entire cancellation.”

While a considerable amount of owners never used Comcast/Xfinity, we still had three problems: one unit owner really wanted to keep the bulk package, there was a decades-old bulk cable contract we were unaware of, and our Rules & Regulations included cable — and this is where the bulk package cancellation got complicated.
